From 8–12 December, Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) successfully hosted a Radical Hysterectomy Camp aimed at strengthening local capacity in the management of early-stage cervical cancer.
The camp was led by AOGM Executive Member and Gynecologic Oncologist, Dr. Lameck Chinula, and provided hands-on surgical training for obstetrics and gynecology residents while delivering critical care to patients. During the camp, nine women successfully underwent radical hysterectomy, helping to reduce the cervical cancer surgical backlog at KCH.
With support from Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation – Malawi and UNC Project Malawi, the initiative brought together visiting clinicians and the KCH team in a strong spirit of collaboration and skills transfer.
AOGM proudly recognizes its members and associate members whose dedication, teamwork, and professionalism contributed to the success of the camp.
Through initiatives like this, AOGM continues to support efforts to strengthen gynecologic oncology services and expand access to quality cervical cancer care in Malawi.
